My bowls and platters are hand-built; I lay freshly rolled clay slabs into molds. Sometimes I will carve lines into the clay while it is still damp, other times the decoration all happens in the glazing phase. I start by hand-drawing with pencil, then use wax resist to paint the area that I don’t want glaze. When I dip it into the glaze, it will only stick to the unwaxed surfaces.
