Early in 2021 I was commissioned to make a ceramic cookie jar in the shape of an historic house in Somerville, Massachusetts. As with any commission, I made extras for insurance, which was an opportunity to use different ways to make the windows and other features. The first two turned out great so I went a little crazy on the last one….

The commission was for a show at the Somerville Museum called PENNY CHRONICLES and the Stories They Tell. Its an historic view of Somerville as depicted on penny postcards, the ‘social media’ of the early 1900s!

You can learn more or visit the show at http://somervillemuseum.org/postcard-show/

(btw, these are approximately 8” in diameter and 12” high)

Below is a picture of the original building, and some of the studies I did to work out how I was going to build and glaze it. The last two show the final one before it was fired.
